16 Aug Kitten Chronicles: Pay Attention or I Just May Bite You
Sometimes, when I am working in the office, Baby hops up on my desk before gently stepping down into my lap. She likes to settle in, draping her paw across my arm, pulling me in close. When this happens, I gently brush her fur with our cat brush or stroke her as she settles in.
Having Baby in my lap makes it a challenge to continue with projects. I’ve become adept at typing one handed, when needed, but mainly, if she is going to grace me with her presence, I give her my full attention.
From time-to-time while sitting there, I have followed a thought or my attention has wandered. Whenever this has happened, my petting became something I did by rote. Baby can certainly feel the difference between when I am present and when I am not. And occasionally, in those moments when my awareness has wandered, I have been quickly brought back to where I am by an annoyed little bite. A gentle reminder about Being Here.
